Large Cristal Art Mirror

Published on: By Gail Garlick

Etched, gilded and silvered glass framed mirror. These mirrors are first etched, then gilded and finally silvered. The process of etching with a metal wheel was so intensive that each mirror took hundreds of hours. The process heated the wheel to the point that the glass could crack. The company took out a patent on the process they used to cool the wheel so they could do this amount of etching, without damaging the glass.Model #2668 c. 1960’s/70’s Shown in book; Cristal-Art La lavorazione del cristallo a torino Author Davide Alaimo p.85

Sardinian Arm Chair

Published on: By Gail Garlick

This  Chestnut and Leather Arm Chair made in the 20’s is a Sardinian classic folk art design. Both in the materials used and the multiple art motifs it follows traditional chair making found for centuries in Sardinia. It’s bold Pavone (peacock) arm supports with scrolling tail feathers, floral rosette and various chip carved motifs are all typical of what is found in traditional folk designs from the island. The chair retains a lovely old patina. See below more on Sardinian Folk Art.

Produced in the same period in Sweden,  this table was from a castle in Ystad, Sweden.
